Michael Douglas ‘doesn’t feel a burning desire’ to act again anytime soon

Michael Douglas doesn’t think he’ll return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Michael Douglas doesn’t feel “a burning desire” to act again anytime soon.

The 80-year-old is currently enjoying an acting hiatus and focusing on his work as a producer, and he told Deadline he will only return to acting if he’s really excited by a project.

“(I will act again) if something good comes up that I really like. But I don’t feel a burning desire. I’m still producing. I still love bringing people together,” he shared. “But I’m enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time.”

Douglas last appeared on screen as America’s founding father Benjamin Franklin in the 2024 Apple TV+ show Franklin. His last movie was 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, in which he reprised his role of Dr. Hank Pym for the third time.

When asked if he would do another Marvel movie, the Wall Street star replied, “I don’t think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it. I’d never done a green screen picture before.”

Last year, the actor hinted that he wouldn’t be back for a fourth Ant-Man film because the producers didn’t honour his request to be killed off in Quantumania.

“I said I’d like to have a serious (death), with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects,” he said on The View. “But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up (for a fourth).”

Douglas gave the interview in honour of a special 50th-anniversary screening of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday. He produced the Jack Nicholson-starring classic when he was only 31 years old.
