Kirsten Dunst joins Channing Tatum in true crime drama Roofman
Roofman tells the remarkable true story of Jeffrey Manchester.
Kirsten Dunst has been cast alongside Channing Tatum in Derek Cianfrance’s upcoming true crime drama Roofman.
The Spider-Man actress will play a Toys ‘R Us employee who forms a bond with Tatum’s criminal, who has been hiding in the store after escaping jail, according to Deadline.
The film tells the remarkable true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a former U.S. Army Reserve officer who became known as the “Rooftop Robber” or “Roofman” for breaking into more than 60 McDonald’s restaurants via their roofs. The serial robber stole money from the cash register after forcing employees into the freezer.
Roofman will focus on the months Manchester spent secretly living in the toy shop in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2004 before being recaptured and sent back to jail.
Dunst’s character is a struggling mother of two who bonds with Manchester without realising that he’s been watching her from inside the shop.
Roofman will be directed by Cianfrance, best known for films such as Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines and The Light Between Oceans. He co-wrote the script with Kirt Gunn.
In addition to Roofman, Dunst’s upcoming projects include the drama Rhubarb and Ruben Östlund’s next comedy The Entertainment System Is Down, which also stars Keanu Reeves and Woody Harrelson.
Tatum, who was attached to the project in February, has had a busy year thanks to the release of Blink Twice, Fly Me to the Moon and Deadpool & Wolverine. He has five more films in the pipeline, from Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s musical Wingmen and the comedy Calamity Hustle.
