Jodie Comer was ‘most scared she’d ever been’ making movie musical debut in Stuffed

Jodie Comer had been campaigning for a musical role in the press for years.

Jodie Comer felt “the most scared (she’d) ever been” filming her first movie musical, Stuffed.

In the romance-horror musical, the Killing Eve star plays Araminta, a taxidermist with a secret ambition to stuff a human specimen.

A lonely man named Bernie, played by Harry Melling, volunteers himself and their unusual arrangement evolves into an unexpected love story.

Comer had openly spoken about her desire to star in a musical in interviews, but when it was time to actually film one, she was terrified.

“(I was) the most scared (I’d) ever been,” she said in an interview with Porter magazine, before joking, “For every minute I wasted saying that I want to do a musical, I probably could have done a year’s worth of professional vocal training.”

Comer was also full of praise for her co-star Melling, best known for films including Pillion and Harry Potter, calling him “a genius”.

Stuffed is the feature directorial debut from Theo Rhys, based on his 2021 BAFTA-nominated short film of the same name. Comer and Melling shot the film in Wales in September last year, and it is currently without a release date.

Now that she’s ticked off a musical, the Free Guy star has another career ambition in her sights.

“I’d love to do an animation,” she shared. “I’ve been begging my agents to get me a role in Shrek (5), like begging. Maybe this will be like the musical: in 10 years’ time, I’ll get to do it!”

Comer can soon be seen in The Death of Robin Hood, alongside Hugh Jackman as the title character, in U.S. cinemas from Friday.
