Jennifer Garner recalls getting ‘Marvel fit’ for Deadpool & Wolverine

The 52-year-old star thanked Ryan Reynolds for giving Elektra “an ending”.

Jennifer Garner has revealed she had to get “Marvel fit” for her cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The 52-year-old actress reprised her role as Elektra for the new MCU movie and has shared the secrets behind her getting in shape for the project. Garner embarked on an ambitious workout regime to ensure she was prepared for the high-octane scenes.

“Other than trying to convince my kids’ preschool buddies that I was secretly a ninja, I hadn’t picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004; I was fit, but not @marvel fit,” Garner explained in an Instagram post on Monday.

“As this impossible dream became reality, my bestie and OG stunt double @shaunaduggins and I amped up our training, led by @bethjnicely at @thelimitfit: 1x/day, plus whatever homework she assigned for a second workout.”

“We had #SuperHeroSummer over here, twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at our sore old bodies,” Garner quipped.

Alongside the message the star posted a video comprising footage of her workouts.

Garner could be seen boxing, running, swimming, lifting weights, leaping between trampolines, working up a sweat on a rowing machine and practising twirling Elektra’s sais daggers.

The actress also paid tribute to Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy for allowing her to reprise one of her most iconic roles and join the star-studded cast.

“I didn’t know that Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did,” she said. “They are gifted in many ways, but seeing and elevating people around them is at the top of the list. Shauna and I were in heaven on set with them, with my old pal @thehughjackman, @dafnekeen, @channingtatum, @realwesleysnipes.

“Shooting the fight was so fun, being there all together – truly like a dream,” Garner added.
