Helen Mirren would make more Thursday Murder Club films ‘in a nanosecond’

Helen Mirren had a “wonderful time” making the crime comedy.

Helen Mirren would jump at the chance to make a sequel to her upcoming movie The Thursday Murder Club.

In the screen adaptation of Richard Osman’s crime comedy novel, the Oscar-winning actress stars alongside Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Ben Kingsley as four pensioners and amateur sleuths living in a retirement home.

When a local property developer is found dead, the group must put their detective skills to the test to try and solve the murder.

Mirren had such a “wonderful time” shooting the film that she wouldn’t hesitate to reunite with her co-stars for a sequel.

“(I’d do another) in a nanosecond. And it would be the team getting back together, which would be great,” she told the Radio Times. “We did have a wonderful time shooting this. So all of us would jump at the chance, quite honestly.”

Luckily for Mirren, Osman has already published three sequels – The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, and The Last Devil to Die – and another book is due to be released later this year, so there’s a high chance of another film in the series.

The 80-year-old actress explained that she has known both Kingsley and Imrie for many years and discovered she had “real chemistry” with Brosnan.

“It was a wonderful coming together of the tribe – one of those magical moments in a career. Ben and I started out together in the Royal Shakespeare Company, both ambitious and obsessed. Celia and I became really good friends on (2003’s) Calendar Girls,” she shared. “Pierce is my wonderful late discovery. I’d like to work with Pierce for the rest of my life. I feel that we have a real chemistry.”

Since making the film, Mirren and Brosnan have worked together on the crime TV series MobLand.

The Thursday Murder Club will be released on Netflix on 28 August after a limited theatrical run.
