Dylan O’Brien “insisted on” performing a rap in the nude for his new movie Ponyboi.

The Maze Runner actor plays a drug dealer and aspiring rapper named Vinnie alongside River Gallo as an intersex sex worker in the new crime thriller.

In one scene, Vinnie serenades Ponbyboi with a rap after they have sex, and the Teen Wolf star thought that it would make more sense for his character if he were naked during his impromptu performance.

“I wanted to do it naked, too. That was another thing I insisted on. We’re laying there naked, it would make sense that I’d get up and I’m rapping it naked in front of you,” he explained to Entertainment Weekly. “Even specifically down to the shot of my butt cheek with the coverage on River. My a*s in the foreground, I thought would be a funny shot.”

Gallo, who wrote the movie, laughed and added that they “full-heartedly approved” of O’Brien making his “a*s debut” in the film.

In addition to his first nude moment, the 33-year-old also had the responsibility of coming up with Vinnie’s rap, and he went home and worked on it every night in the run-up to the scene.

“They trusted me to the point where I didn’t even show it to them until the morning that we were shooting it,” O’Brien revealed. “This is now going to sound insane, because the rap is average, but if anything, the note was like, ‘It might be too good. He’s still kind of a loser, remember? These are the kind of lyrics this guy would write.’ I think it’s interesting if he’s not bad and not good, he’s right in the middle of it being something. It’s something he actually does want to pursue.”

Ponyboi will be released in U.S. cinemas on Friday.
