Domhnall Gleeson hasn’t “lost any sleep” over the negative response to his final Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker.

The Irish actor played General Hux, an evil military commander, in 2015’s The Force Awakens, 2017’s The Last Jedi and 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

While the first film scored rave reviews, the last one took a battering from the critics and fans. However, Gleeson, who only had a small role in the third outing, hasn’t “lost any sleep over” the negative reaction.

“You want everybody to like everything, but it’s impossible,” he told The Independent.

The Revenant star admitted that he does sometimes read reviews of his projects.

“If you’ve got nothing to do all day, and you’re in between jobs, it’s hard not to have a glance. Because you’re unemployed and somebody’s whispering behind that door, and you want to lean in to hear,” he shared. “The only time the reviews hurt is if they say something that you agree with, because otherwise you can just disagree with what somebody says, and that’s fine. Everybody’s got a different point of view, and everybody likes different art.”

The 40-year-old also addressed the mixed response to his 2013 romantic comedy About Time, with one critic calling him a “ginger Hugh Grant”.

“When it came out, people were definitely sniffy about it, which is their right. And fair enough, I don’t love every romcom either. That’s all fine. But I wanted it to do well, not just for selfish reasons, but because I loved it,” he explained.

“I love Hugh Grant and I’m ginger so there’s nothing to complain about there. If they were saying it in a sniffy way, then f**k them!”

The appreciation for About Time has grown in the decade since its release.
