Justin Lin ‘in the process’ of deciding how Fast & Furious saga will end

The filmmaker has helmed five instalments in the action franchise, including the upcoming F9.

Vin Diesel and Justin Lin are working together to try and figure out how the Fast & Furious saga will end.

The filmmaker has helmed five instalments in the action franchise, including the upcoming F9, and it was confirmed that there will be two more movies before Lin brings the saga to a close.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director said he had teamed up with leading man Diesel – who plays Dominic Toretto – and they were “in the process” of deciding what the Fast & Furious endgame will be.

“We’re definitely in the process. Looking back, I think even talking to Vin today, it feels like it’s been 10 years in the making. There’s moments where I remember hanging out with Vin and we’d just talk about, ‘Well, what would the last chapter be? Where is Dom going?’” he explained. “And so, it’s all starting to come together now, and I have to say, again, it’s so fulfilling.”

The 49-year-old filmmaker said the success of the franchise has changed how he’s allowed to make the movies, and he recalled an incident while filming Fast Five in 2011 in which studio bosses at Universal had turned down his request to film an expensive car chase.

“Back then I was like, ‘We have to do the favela chase,’ and the studio was like, ‘Nope, not enough money.’ I’m like, ‘Screw you guys, we’re gonna do it!'” Lin explained, adding that he and the assistant director completed the six-day sequence in less than two days.

“Now we’re at a point where we’re going to need five days to do this chase and it’s like, ‘Okay, great.’ So, I think there’s a really different vibe on this one and it feels like we’ve all been on this journey and we’ve earned it. So, I’m definitely in savour mode right now as we’re creating.”

F9 is set to be released in June.
