Seth Rogen ‘hurt his shoulder for seven months’ doing comedy fall in The Invite

Seth Rogen thought it would be funny to fall over in the scene – and seriously hurt himself.

Seth Rogen has revealed that he “hurt his shoulder for seven months” after doing a comedy fall in The Invite.

In Olivia Wilde’s acclaimed comedy, Rogen and Wilde play a couple in crisis who are forced to confront their loveless marriage when they invite their upstairs neighbours, played by Edward Norton and Penelope Cruz, around for dinner.

In one scene, Rogen and Cruz have a “romantically charged moment”, and the Knocked Up star thought it would be funny if his character fell over while trying to take off his trousers.

The Canadian actor admitted during a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that his decision had long-lasting repercussions for his shoulder.

“I’m always trying to fall down in scenes, that’s kind of a thing I’m always trying to do. As I get older, I should not keep doing it,” the 44-year-old acknowledged. “But I was like, ‘It’s funny if I’m trying to get my pants off and maybe I struggle and I fall down in the scene.’ And I did it. Everyone’s like, ‘Ha, that was great.’ And then I hurt my shoulder for seven months.”

Rogen then recreated the moment, clutching his shoulder in pain while pretending that he was fine.

“Everyone’s like, ‘You’re not OK.’ And I’m like, ‘I know, it’s fine, it’s fine,'” he recalled, adopting a pained voice.

During the intimate scene, Rogen’s character repeatedly thanks Cruz’s for taking a sexual interest in him, and The Studio star revealed those were improvised lines based on how he would react in such a situation.

“I just kept saying ‘Thank you,'” he shared. “Olivia Wilde, the director, was just like, ‘Why? What are you doing? Why do you keep saying ‘Thank you?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t (know). It’s just what’s coming out of my mouth. All I have is gratitude for this.'”

He then quipped, “(In real life,) I would just thank her. I would be apologetic and thankful.”

Rogen, who is married to Lauren Miller, was then asked if he was worried about the Spanish star’s husband, Javier Bardem, and he joked, “I don’t think he views me as a legitimate threat in any way, shape or form.”

The Invite is now showing in cinemas.
