Gracie Abrams was ‘so scared for her life’ auditioning for movie debut Please

Gracie Abrams auditioned for Please “many, many times”.

Gracie Abrams has admitted that she felt “so scared for her life” when she was invited to audition for Halina Reijn’s next movie Please.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the That’s So True singer would make her acting debut as the lead character in Please, the next film from the Babygirl director.

Explaining how the role came about, Gracie revealed on The New York Times’ Popcast podcast that she met Reijn for breakfast three years ago, and they had an “electric” connection.

When the filmmaker reached out three years later about her latest script, Gracie thought she just wanted her opinion, not that she was considering her for the lead role.

“When she reached out, I didn’t think she was asking me to read it and potentially audition for it; I just thought she wanted me to read it,” she shared. “It was the best day ever, getting to read her work, and it really moved me so hard, so fast. I called her back immediately, kind of raving, and that started the audition process.”

The 26-year-old confessed that she was terrified about auditioning because she had “no experience in that realm”, but she wanted to seize the opportunity.

“When she was like, ‘Do you want to audition?’ and I was like (does a silent scream), so scared for my life, but also, it was such an amazing opportunity, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world, coming home that day and going to sleep like, ‘I got to read her words and she was in the room and she’s so brilliant,'” she gushed.

The Hit the Wall hitmaker noted that she auditioned for the part “many, many times” and felt grateful to be given a chance.

“(During each round,) I was always just like, ‘How cool that I get to know what this version of the circus feels like and for some reason she’s letting me try,'” she added.

While she has yet to begin filming on the top-secret movie, Gracie admitted the process was “already very humbling”, and she was feeling both nervous and thrilled about starting production.

According to IMDb, the movie will also star English actors Tom Burke and David Jonsson as well as Heated Rivalry breakout Connor Storrie.
